Food Network has simple and easy to follow recipes for cheese straws from two of its stars. Paula Deen and Trisha Yearwood each have their own take on the snack.
To make Paula Deen's recipe, preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. In a food processor, mix 1/2 cup butter, 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar, 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper until a dough is formed. Scoop the dough into a cookie press with a flat ridged tip. Pipe the dough into 2-inch strips onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove to racks to cool.
To make Trisha Yearwood's recipe, preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. In a mixer, mix 3 10-ounce bricks sharp Cheddar cheese and 1 cup butter. Beat until mixture has the consistency of whipped cream. In a bowl, mix 3 cups flour, 2 teaspoons salt, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, 1/8 cayenne pepper and a dash of garlic powder. Add the mixture to the cheese mixture one spoonful at a time, while mixing. Scoop the dough into a cookie press with a star tube and press onto a cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
