This cheddar cheese sauce makes four to six servings and is an ideal accompaniment to a vegetable side dish. It received a five-star rating, and requires only five ingredients. It can either be served on top of, or on the side of the steamed vegetables it is intended for. Adding additional flavor with garlic powder is also possible.

- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- Kosher salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
Combine ingredientsMelt the butter in a saucepan until it looks frothy and add flour. Stir the flour in until it resembles paste. Whisk in milk, salt and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a boil, and then simmer on medium heat for 5 to 8 minutes. Stir in cheese gradually until it melts.
