Food Network publishes a recipe by Ree Drummond for beef with broccoli on its website, FoodNetwork.com. The recipe calls for ingredients such as soy sauce, sherry, brown sugar, oyster sauce and beef broth. Other ingredients include ginger, garlic, cornstarch, flank steak and broccoli florets.
Start by mixing together 1/2 cup of low-sodium soy sauce along with 1/4 cup of cornstarch, 3 tablespoons of sherry, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of minced fresh garlic and 1 tablespoon of minced fresh ginger. Add 1 pound of thinly sliced flank steak to a bowl, and pour half of the sauce over, tossing the meat to combine thoroughly. Reserve the rest of the sauce.
Heat 3 tablespoons of peanut or olive oil in a heavy skillet over high heat, and add 1 pound of broccoli florets. Cook while stirring for about one minute, and then transfer the broccoli to a plate. Heat the skillet again, and then add beef in a single layer. Allow it to brown for about one minute, and then turn it, and brown it for another 30 seconds. Transfer the browned beef to a plate.
Pour the sauce into the skillet, stir in 1/4 cup each of beef broth and oyster sauce, and cook over high heat until the mixture thickens. Return the broccoli and beef to the pan and toss to reheat and coat in the sauce. If necessary, season to taste with salt.
