Food Network and Country Living feature easy vanilla cake recipes. Each recipe takes around 30 minutes to prepare and uses basic ingredients, such as flour, sugar, vanilla, eggs and butter.
To make Food Network's vanilla cake, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. In a separate bowl, beat 2 sticks of room-temperature butter and 1 1/2 cups of sugar at medium-high speed for about three minutes or until light and fluffy. One at a time, beat in 4 large eggs, then 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
Combine 3/4 cup of heavy cream and 1/2 cup of water. Alternate adding the flour mixture and cream mixture to the butter mixture in three batches, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Beat the batter until smooth. Divide evenly into two greased and floured 9-inch round pans, and bake at 350 F for 25 to 30 minutes.
Make Country Living's vanilla cake by sifting 1 1/2 cups of cake flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt into a large bowl. Beat in 1/2 cup of butter, 1/4 teaspoon at a time, then beat in 1 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the mixture looks like fine sand. Beat in 2 eggs, one at a time, then 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and 1/2 cup of whole milk until blended. Bake in a greased and floured 8-inch round pan at 400 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes.
