One easy pear honey recipe is from Giada De Laurentiis on Food Network. The recipe takes just 20 minutes to prepare and 30 minutes to cook, and it uses four ingredients.
To prepare the recipe, combine 1 20-ounce can of crushed pineapple with syrup, 10 cups sugar and 1 tablespoon lemon juice in a large saucepan. Peel, core and chop about 6 pounds of pears, and add them to the saucepan. Cook the mixture for about 30 minutes or until the liquid thickens and the pears are soft. For thicker pear honey, continue to boil the mixture down until it reaches the desired consistency. While the pear honey is hot, pour it into sterilized jars before sealing.
For a flavor variation, consider adding 1/2 cup grated ginger to the recipe, or add some ground cinnamon. Drizzle the prepared honey on toast, biscuits or waffles for breakfast, or drizzle it over ice cream. When canning pear honey, choose glass jars that are free of cracks or chips. Opt for two-piece lids to allow for vacuum sealing. Wash the jars and lids with hot, soapy water before boiling them in a saucepan of water for 15 minutes, and use tongs to avoid contaminating sterilized canning equipment.
