For oven-cooked pulled pork, gather 5 pounds pork butt, 1 cup apple juice, 1 teaspoon salt, 4 cloves garlic and 1 tablespoon chili powder. Also organize 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder and some barbecue sauce. Cooking time spans at least three hours.
To make your own barbecue sauce, organize 1 1/2 cups ketchup, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 2/3 cups cider vinegar, 1/4 cup chopped onion and 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard. Also gather 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon onion powder. Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan, bring the contents to a boil, then reduce the heat, and allow everything to simmer until thickened.
To prepare the meat, combine all the spices, salt and mustard in a bowl. Once you have the pork inside a roasting pan, cover it with the spice mixture liberally. Cook the roast at 450 F for approximately one hour, then remove it, and pour the apple cider on top of it. Spread the minced garlic on top as well, and return the pork to the oven, this time covered tightly with foil.
Check the pork after two hours, allowing for an extra half hour to cook if necessary. When done, the pork is easily pulled off with the fingers. Remove the pork from the oven, and add barbecue sauce directly into it, if desired. Serve with fresh rolls, cole slaw and extra sauce.
