To make an easy mulled wine cocktail for winter holidays, combine 1 1/2 cups cranberry juice with 1/2 cup sugar, 2 cinnamon sticks and 2 pieces of star anise in a saucepan. Simmer the mixture for 15 minutes, and add 3 cups of dry red wine and 1/2 cup cranberries.
To make a cool, but festive, winter holiday rum punch, combine 1/2 cup dark rum, 1/2 cup orange liqueur and 2 cups of fresh orange juice in a large punch bowl or a pitcher. Chill the mixture for one hour before topping it with 2 bottles of chilled sparkling wine. Add festive garnishes to each glass, such as a sprig of rosemary or a slice of star fruit.
To make an easy, crowd-pleasing warm weather holiday cocktail, try making a pitcher of citrus sangria. Combine 4 cups of white grape juice with two 750-milliliter bottles of white zinfandel. Add 1 sliced lemon, lime and orange. Chill the sangria for at least four hours, and serve it over ice.
Alternatively, make a lemony gin punch by combining 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan. Simmer the mixture until the sugar dissolves. Take the pan off the heat, and stir in 1/4 cup honey. Allow the syrup to cool before pouring it into a large pitcher along with 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice, 3/4 cup gin and 1 cup club soda.
