An easy French brioche recipe is the simple brioche loaf recipe from About.com. To make this recipe, you need flour, yeast, sugar, salt and butter, as well as warm milk and eggs.
Whisk together 1 2/3 cup of all-purpose flour, 3 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast, 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Slowly fold in 1/3 cup of warm milk, 2 3/4 ounces of softened unsalted butter and 2 eggs one ingredient at a time. Knead the dough until it has a uniform and smooth texture and starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and allow the dough to rise until it doubles in size, about two hours.
Punch the dough down on a floured work surface, and either form it into an oval or divide it into three pieces. If opting for the pieces, braid them together after rolling each one out into a long rope. Place the oval or braid of dough in a loaf plan, and cover it with a towel. Allow the dough to rise again for 45 to 60 minutes before brushing it with 1 beaten egg and sprinkling it with 1 tablespoon of sugar. Bake the bread for 10 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and then bake it for 25 more minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
