What Are Some Easy Condensed Milk Recipes?

There are a few recipes that call for condensed milk as a main ingredient, such as one for chocolate peanut butter mousse pie and another for chocolate fudge. Condensed milk is a thick, sweet milk product that comes in a can and can serve in place of fresh milk or cream in many recipes.

Sweetened condensed milk is a kind of thickened milk. Producers make it by removing water from the milk and adding sugar to the remaining liquid. Cooks can also make their own condensed milk at home. It has the consistency of syrup, so bakers can use it to simultaneously sweeten and add liquid to baked goods.

One of the most common recipes that uses condensed milk is key lime pie. It also works well in a variety of pastry recipes, such as pumpkin pie, carrot pie, chocolate pie, strawberry cream tarts, custard tarts, butterscotch tarts and fruit tarts.

The chocolate peanut butter mousse pie recipe involves about 15 minutes of prep work and takes about an hour to chill in a freezer. The recipe includes sweetened condensed milk, a 9-inch graham cracker crust, semi-sweet chocolate chips, softened cream cheese, creamy peanut butter and thawed frozen whipped topping. Combine a small amount of the milk and chocolate chips in a bowl and melt the chocolate in a microwave. Set aside a small portion of the chocolate mixture and pour the remainder into the graham cracker crust. Mix the remaining ingredients and add to the crust. Drizzle the remaining chocolate on top of the pie and freeze until ready to serve.

The fudge recipe only requires four ingredients: chocolate chips, condensed milk, salt and vanilla extract. Chopped nuts can also be added, if desired. Combine the chocolate chips with the milk and a pinch of salt in a saucepan and melt the chocolate on low heat. Mix well and remove from the heat. Add the vanilla extract and nuts, if desired, to the saucepan. Mix well again. Pour the mixture into an aluminum foil-lined pan and spread the fudge mixture evenly. Chill until the fudge is firm, about 2 hours. Cut the fudge into small pieces and serve.
