Two kid-friendly baking recipes are peanut butter crispy rice treats and Pillsbury crescent dogs. Both recipes are easy and fun for kids to make, although younger children may need assistance.
To make peanut butter crispy rice treats, lightly butter a 13- by 9- inch baking dish. Next, melt 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large saucepan until light brown dots form. Add 4 cups of mini marshmallows to the saucepan and stir until fully melted. Take from the burner and mix in 1/2 cup of smooth peanut butter. Next, stir in 6 cups of puffed rice cereal and 1/2 cup of roasted whole peanuts. Pour the mixture into the baking dish and press to make it even. Microwave 4 ounces of semisweet chopped chocolate, checking every 30 seconds until melted. Once the crispy treats are completely cooled, drizzle the melted chocolate over the treats and cut into 18 bars.
For the Pillsbury crescent dogs, first preheat the oven to 375 F. Slice eight hot dogs down the middle, leaving about 1/2 an inch on either end. Next, cut four slices of American cheese into 6 strips each. Stuff 3 strips of cheese into each hot dog. Open an 8-ounce can of Pillsbury refrigerated crescent dinner rolls, separate and unroll each triangle piece. Place one hot dog on each triangle and roll it up. Put the wrapped up dogs on an ungreased cookie sheet, and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the rolls turn a golden brown.
