About.com and Smirnoff provide drink recipes for a kamikaze. The Smirnoff recipe uses its No. 21 Vodka, and the About.com recipe uses any type of vodka.
The kamikaze recipe on About.com requires 1 1/2 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of lime juice, 1 ounce of triple sec and a lime wedge to garnish the drink. Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake it well, then strain it into a chilled cocktail glass. Add the lime wedge on side of the glass.
The Smirnoff recipe includes No. 21 Smirnoff vodka, 0.5 fluid ounces of triple sec and 0.75 fluid ounces of lime juice or sour mix. Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, and shake well. Pour the ingredients into a shot glass.
The International Bartenders Association suggests serving the drink straight up as a shot or on ice. It also suggests equal parts of each ingredient. The lime can be put in the glass, rather than wedging it on the side of the glass. Ice can be added to the drink, rather than draining the ice out of the cocktail shaker. The word “kamikaze” is Japanese for “divine wind." If desired, multiply the recipe to make several drinks.
