Meat lasagna recipes use a variety of ingredients and popular meat choices, including ground beef and Italian sausage. Extra easy lasagna uses ground beef and a sausage lasagna recipe incorporates sausage and spinach. Ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese are often used, along with pasta sauce and Italian spices.
To make a simple lasagna brown and crumble 1 pound lean ground beef in a large skillet pan. Stir in 4 cups basil-tomato pasta sauce, and spread one-third of the sauce into a large, lightly greased baking dish. Arrange 3 uncooked lasagna noodles on top with 1/2 container ricotta cheese and 1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers and top with remaining meat sauce. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Uncover and continue baking another 10 minutes.
To make sausage lasagna remove 1 pound Italian sausage from casings and add to a skillet pan along with 1 medium chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves. Cook until sausage browns and drain. Stir in 1 jar marinara sauce and 1 teaspoon dried oregano, simmering for five minutes. In a bowl, combine 2 containers ricotta cheese, 1 beaten egg, 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese and 2 cups chopped fresh spinach. Grease a large baking dish and spread 1 cup meat sauce on the bottom.
Arrange 3 lasagna noodles on top of sauce and top with one-fourth cheese mixture, 1 cup meat sauce and 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers three times and top with remaining parmesan cheese. Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
