Doritos Cool Ranch flavor was released in 1986 and are sometimes known as Cooler Ranch or Cool Original. The original Doritos were released in 1966 and boomed into big business for Frito-Lay, becoming one its their biggest brands.
Doritos came about after Arch West, the vice president of marketing for Frito-Lay, noticed their popularity at Casa de Fritos in Disneyland. Casa de Fritos were using surplus tortillas and turning them into the Mexican snack, totopos. These totopos were corn chips with some seasoning that resembled the salsa found in Mexican chilaquiles.
Outside of the United States, there are many flavors unknown to Doritos fans. These include sushi, wasabi mayonnaise and winter crab flavors in Japan, BBQ Rib in the U.K. and South Korea, and orange flavor in Israel.
