Placing the chicken in a cold water bath is the best way to defrost it, says Huffington Post. Begin by placing the chicken in its packaging in a vessel. Set the vessel in the sink, and fill it with cold water. Change the water every 30 minutes.
Cook the chicken as soon as it is thawed. Alternatively, remove the chicken from the freezer, and place it in the refrigerator. Foster Farms recommends allowing five hours per pound for the chicken to thaw. In a pinch, remove the chicken from its packaging, and place it in a microwave-safe cooking vessel. Set the microwave on defrost, and thaw the chicken per the microwave manufacturer's instructions.
