- 8 tbsp.. butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 2/3 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Step 1: Sift together the baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg and flour in a large bowl. Set aside.
Step 2: Whip together the butter and sugar, and then add in the vanilla and egg. Alternately add the flour mixture and sour cream into the butter mixture.
Step 3: Tightly wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
Step 4: Line baking sheets with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 425 F.
Step 5: On a floured surface, roll the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place on the cookie sheets. Chill the cookies in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before baking.
Step 6: Bake the cookies for 6 to 8 minutes, until the edges are browned. Transfer to a cooling rack and allow to cool completely. Add icing, if desired.
