The most common way to cook prime rib is to roast it in the oven, after seasoning with salt and pepper, for around 2 hours at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Herbs such as rosemary can be used to enhance flavor, as can garlic.
A simple roast prime rib recipe requires:
Prep time:1 hour 25 minutes
Cook time: 2 hours 35 minutes
- Prime rib, with bones and any excess fat removed
- 4 teaspoons of salt
- 4 sprigs of rosemary
- 4 garlic cloves
- Ground black pepper
- Prepare the meat First, trim any excess fat and bones from the meat. Season the rib well with the salt and pepper, making sure that the meat is at room temperature before being placed in the oven at 400 degrees F. Place the meat on top of the bones in a roasting tray, with any excess fat or meat placed in the bottom with the bones. This will allow the meat to soak up the flavors. Roast for around 30 minutes.
- Add the rosemary and garlic After 30 minutes, add the rosemary and garlic to the tray, then baste the meat generously with the juices from the bottom. Baste again after another 30 minutes, then lower the heat to 130 degrees F, and cook for another hour and 15 minutes. Baste every 30 minutes, then let the meat stand for at least 15 minutes before serving.
