One way to prepare slow cooker potatoes is to combine Dutch potatoes with olive oil, butter and seasonings and cook on low for four to five hours. Another option is to prepare mashed potatoes by cooking potato chunks on low until tender, then mashing with milk and seasonings.
To cook Dutch potatoes, spray the inside of the slow cooker with non-stick spray, then add 3 pounds of Dutch potatoes, 2 tablespoons each of butter and olive oil, and 4 cloves mashed garlic. Add salt and pepper to taste. You can also add chopped herbs such as oregano, basil and dill, as you see fit. Cover the slow cooker, and cook the potatoes on low for four to five hours, or on high for two to three hours, until the potatoes are tender. Serve hot with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese.
To make mashed potatoes in a slow cooker, cut 5 pounds of baking potatoes into 1-inch chunks and add them to the slow cooker, along with 1 cup of water or chicken broth and 1/2 cup butter. Cover and cook on high for about four hours, until the potatoes are tender and the water is absorbed. Mash the potatoes in the slow cooker with a potato masher, then add 1 to 1 1/2 cups warm milk, depending on how thick you want the potatoes to be. Season with salt and pepper to taste and mix with an electric mixer until well blended. Keep on warm in the slow cooker until you're ready to serve.
