Cook a ham in the oven by rinsing it in cold water, placing it in a roasting pan and cooking it for half the required time. Remove the ham, rub it with a glaze, and continue cooking while basting the ham regularly.
Start by purchasing an 18- to 20-pound smoked ham. Remove the ham hock, and rinse the ham before placing the meat on a rack in a roasting pan. Cover, and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about three hours.
Meanwhile, heat 16 ounces of light brown sugar with 1 cup of honey until the sugar dissolves. Glaze the ham with the sauce, and cook for the rest of the time, basting the ham regularly. Once the meat reaches an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, remove it from the oven, and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
Other great sauces with which you can glaze the ham include sweet hot honey mustard glaze or honey thyme glaze. To make the sweet hot honey mustard glaze, simply combine 3 tablespoons of hot honey mustard and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Add several garlic cloves, and brush over the ham.
To make the honey thyme glaze, heat 1/4 cup cider vinegar until it reduces, then mix in 3 tablespoons of melted butter and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh thyme. Add 1/4 cup of honey, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Brush the glaze over the ham.
