An easy way to cook a filet mignon in the oven is to broil it under the broiler for five to seven minutes per side. Even more flavor is added with a few spices or perhaps a marinade. Traditional side dishes include baked or mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables.
The most basic recipe is to lightly salt and pepper a filet mignon, place it on a broiler pan and broil it in the oven for five to seven minutes per side. Wrapping it in bacon will help it hold its shape and add additional flavor.
Another recipe calls for marinating the steak. Place 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 teaspoon each of garlic and onion powder into a microwave safe bowl. Melt the butter and stir to blend the spices. Place the steak in the butter mixture for an hour, turning every 15 minutes. Preheat the broiler and place the steak on a broiler pan. Broil the steak for five to seven minutes per side.
To make a smothered filet mignon in the oven, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan and saute 1 onion, thinly sliced until caramelized. Add 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms and cook for two minutes. Broil the steak in the oven for five to seven minutes and then turn it and cook it for all but the last two minutes. Cover the steak with the mushrooms and onion mixture and return to the oven for two minutes.
