Chinese-style fried rice is made by using ingredients, seasonings and spices that are commonly used in traditional Chinese cuisine. These include soy sauce, hoisin sauce and Chinese five-spice mix. Other fried rice versions include Thai, Burmese, Korean and even American style fried rice.
Pork Fried Rice
While this recipe uses pork tenderloin meat, other types of meat may be used including chicken, Chinese sausage and hot dogs.
Prep time: 15 minutes.
Total time: 25 minutes (provided that the rice is already cooked).
Number of servings: 4.
- 3 cups cooked white rice
- 12 ounces pork tenderloin, diced into half-inch squares
- 4 large eggs, beaten lightly
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons peanut oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 3/4 teaspoon five-spice mix
- 1/2 cup finely diced carrot
- 5 ounces thawed frozen peas
- 3 thinly sliced scallions on the bias
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 cup finely chopped white onion
- Marinate the pork
- Stir fry the pork
- Add the rice
- Add the rest of the ingredients
Mix the pork, hoisin and soy sauces, honey and five-spice in a bowl and marinate for 15 minutes.
Heat the wok over high heat and add peanut oil. Add the onion and garlic once the oil shimmers and stir in the pork, saving the marinade. Brown for about 2 minutes.
Stir in the rice, carrots and marinade. Stir continuously until the marinade has been absorbed.
Make a well in the middle of the rice, and then pour the eggs in the well and scramble. Add the remaining ingredients and stir until well-mixed.
