Skittles were developed and produced by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, a division of Mars, Inc. As of 2015, Skittles are one of the most popular modern candies in production and are marketed in over 65 countries around the world.
Skittles are small, round fruit chews that were first introduced in North America in 1979 as an imported product; domestic production of Skittles began three years later in 1982. Prior to 1982, Skittles were only produced in Europe. Skittles are currently manufactured in the Czech Republic for the European markets and in Victoria, Australia for Australian and New Zealand markets.
