To color eggs, gather the materials and prepare a work area. Use a mixture of vinegar, water and food coloring. Allow the colored eggs to dry in an old egg carton.
- Gather the materials
Gather hard boiled eggs, vinegar and food coloring. Bring newspaper, cups, spoons and an empty egg carton to the work area.
- Prepare the area
Prepare an area to color the eggs by putting down newspaper. The newspaper catches any drips or spills.
- Boil water
Boil enough water to add approximately 1/2 cup for each color of dye you plan to use.
- Mix vinegar and water
Mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar and 1/2 cup of boiling water in a cup for each color you are creating. Any variety of vinegar is suitable.
- Add the food coloring
Add approximately 20 drops of food coloring into the cup of water and vinegar. Repeat this step for each color. You can use two different colors of food coloring to mix new colors.
- Dip the eggs in the mixtures
Dip the hard boiled eggs in the colored mixtures. The longer you leave the eggs in the mixtures, the darker of a color the egg turns.
- Allow the eggs to dry
Place the finished eggs into an old egg carton, and allow them to dry.
