It is a good substitute for most sports drinks and fruit juices because of its high potassium and low caloric, sugar and sodium content. However, regarding the claims that coconut water is good for healing certain diseases, these are not well-supported by scientific research.
Coconut water can be beneficial to those who like its sweet, nutty taste, however like anything else, it should be consumed in moderation. Additionally, WebMD warns that plain coconut water must not be confused with high-fat coconut milk or other coconut drinks that contain added sugar and higher calories, similar to sodas and some fruit juices.
