Ground cayenne pepper and ground red pepper are the same thing. The pepper is also known as capsicum minimum and is popular in Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine.
Many Mexican and Indian recipes also call for cayenne or red pepper. A number of different pepper types are often used to make ground red pepper, including yellow and orange peppers. Peppers that are yellow or orange in color are high in beta carotene. The lighter the seasoning is, the more beta carotene it contains. Cayenne can be used to enhance the flavor of chocolate and can also be added to condiments like barbecue sauce.
