To make chewy oatmeal cookies, beat 3/4 cup Crisco, 1 1/4 cups brown sugar, 1 large egg, 1/3 cup milk and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract until well blended. Combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a separate bowl. Beat the flour mixture into the shortening mixture until smooth. Stir in 3 cups of oats. Optional add-ins include 1 cup of raisins, chopped walnuts, chocolate chips or butterscotch chips. Bake the cookies on a greased baking sheet in a 375 degrees F oven for about 10 to 12 minutes.
