It is possible to use cream cheese in a lasagna recipe instead of ricotta or cottage cheese. The recipe from A Spicy Perspective calls for two 8-ounce blocks cream cheese, 5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese and 1.5 pounds shredded Parmesan cheese.
Additional ingredients for this recipe include 64 ounces of marinara sauce, a box of lasagna noodles, 2 pounds of Italian sausage and Italian seasoning. Boil the noodles in a large pot, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and then brown the sausage in a pan. After the noodles are ready and the sausage is drained of fat, pour the marinara into the sausage pan, and then assemble the lasagna in a 9-by-13-inch baking pan.
Place a layer of noodles in the pan, then a layer of meat sauce, then another layer of noodles. In the middle section, place slices of cream cheese and the other cheeses before covering them with the remaining sausage and sauce mixture. Place a top layer of noodles on the dish, and then bake it in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes.
