Although Kentucky Fried Chicken does not make the exact recipe for its coleslaw public, Top Secret Recipes and Food.com both offer copycat versions of the recipe. Each version calls for shredded cabbage and carrots.
Top Secret Recipe’s version calls for combining 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/4 cup each milk and buttermilk, and 2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice. Also, add 1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Add the mixture to 8 cups finely chopped cabbage, 1/4 cup shredded carrot and 2 tablespoons minced onion. Mix well, cover, and refrigerate the mixture for two hours before serving.
Food.com’s copycat coleslaw recipe calls for mixing 6 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil with 3/4 cup chopped onion, 1 cup sugar, 4 1/2 teaspoons tarragon vinegar and 2 1/2 cups Miracle Whip salad dressing. Mix well, and pour the mixture over 2 heads of shredded cabbage and 2 grated carrots. Refrigerate overnight before serving.
