Epsom salt, or magnesium sulfate, can be ingested in order to relieve occasional constipation. Magnesium draws water into the intestines, making it easier to pass stools. Epsom salt can also be used as a soak to relieve muscle pain and soften the skin.
Caution must be taken when taking Epsom salt because an overdose of magnesium sulfate can be fatal.
