FoodPantries.org, Feeding America and No Kid Hungry provide a list of food pantries and food banks that accept food donations locally and nationally. Most food donation organizations only accept shelf-stable foods with distant expiration dates.
Acceptable foods to donate include canned goods such as canned vegetables, meats and fruits. Dried goods, such as pasta, rice and cereal, are another option because they are also shelf-stable. Food banks accept some condiments, such as vegetable oils, salad dressings, syrups, peanut butter and jelly, because they do not require refrigeration after the containers are opened. Jarred baby foods are good to donate in most cases, as are dried spices, teas and coffees.
