To prepare and cook soybeans, cover them generously with salt, and boil in well-salted water over high heat. After the beans are cooked, they can be served hot or at room temperature as finger food.
- Gather ingredients and materials
Measure 1/2 pound of young green soybeans, measuring about 4 cups of pods and including 2 tablespoons of salt. Soybeans can be either fresh or frozen. Also, a bowl and a large pot of well-salted water for cooking are needed.
- Prepare soybeans
To start, separate the soybean pods from the stalks, and place in a large bowl. Next, sprinkle the soybeans with salt, and mix well to incorporate. Let the soybeans stand for 15 minutes. In the meantime, bring a large pot of well-salted water to a rapid boil. Add the salted beans, and continue to boil over high heat for approximately 5 to 6 minutes, depending on the preferred bean tenderness. Do not cover the pot as this causes the beans to lose their bright color. Once cooked, drain the beans.
- Serve soybeans
Soybeans can be served in baskets or bowls either hot or at room temperature. Separate the soybeans from the pods, using fingers. Eat the beans, and discard the pods.
