Zima is available only in Japan, as of 2015. It was a highly popular beverage when the Adolph Coors brewing company released it in 1994, but its popularity fizzled, and its distribution in the United States ceased on Oct. 10, 2008.
The maker of the drink in Japan, The Molson Coors brewing company, has succeeded by marketing the product differently than its American counterpart. In the United States, the brand developed a feminine image, and this attributed to the product’s eventual demise, since male drinkers shunned it. By using different marketing techniques, including heavy use of attractive women in its marketing materials, Zima has succeeded in making that specific male demographic its most successful.
