Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton was a popular moonshiner and bootlegger in Cocke County, Tennessee, who was known for his corn whiskey. Sutton was arrested in 2008 for illegally selling distilled spirits, and was sentenced to prison. While under house arrest, Sutton entrusted his recipe and techniques to James Grosser and they formed a company, J&M Concepts LLC. Sutton committed suicide in 2009 before commencing his jail sentence. In 2010, "Popcorn Sutton's Tennessee White Whiskey" was launched. A lawsuit with Jack Daniel's for trademark infringement followed, which hampered production. As of today, Popcorn Sutton whiskey is once again available on the market, though it is no longer referred to as Tennessee White Whiskey.
