Beef pot pie can be made in the crock pot. The meal can be slow cooked for 10 to 12 hours or can be quickly prepared on high for 5 to 6 hours. Cooks can choose a twin pack of pre-formed pie crusts to save even more preparation time.
The beef pot pie is easily prepared in a crock pot in just a few steps. Ingredients needed are 2 pounds of beef stew meat cut into 1-inch cubes, three medium chopped onions, three beef-bouillon cubes, three large carrots sliced 1/4 inch thick, three large celery slicks sliced, 16 ounces of frozen green peas, one pre-sliced package of fresh mushrooms, 4 tablespoons cornstarch, salt and pepper to taste, 2 cups of dry red wine and one packaged, pre-made pie crust.
Cooks should mix the first seven ingredients together in the crock pot and then add the bouillons, sprinkling on the cornstarch, salt and pepper next, and then pouring the red wine over the mixture. The dish should be covered and cooked on low heat for 10 to 12 hours, or on high for five to six hours.
Once the beef mixture is fully cooked, the cook places one pie crust in the bottom of a large, round pie pan. She places the beef mixture in the pan and then covers with a second crust, pinching the edges together to create a seam and then cutting slits in the top of the crust to allow for venting. The dish bakes for 30 to 35 minutes and cools for 10 minutes.
