Turduckens are turkeys stuffed with boneless duck breast and deboned chicken. Retailers often stuff them with flavored or signature stuffing. This stuffing contains combinations of various ingredients, including cornbread, smoked sausage, wild rice, pecans and vegetables.
Retailers sell turducken raw, frozen and vacuum sealed. Prior to cooking, it should thaw for 48 to 72 hours in the refrigerator. Once thawed, heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and take it out of its packaging. Ignore any netting or string that may be holding the turducken in place; it is essential to keep the meat intact during the cooking process. Place the turducken in a roast pan with the breast side up, and cover with a lid.
Cook the turducken for four hours. Take off the lid, and cook an additional hour or until the turducken's internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. Remove the pan from the oven, and allow to sit for 20 to 30 minutes in order to fully absorb the juices. Take off the netting, and begin slicing by taking off the wings and legs. Slice the turducken's body into 1/2- or 3/4-inch slices, and serve.Learn more about Grocery
