The Butterball website provides instructions for safely thawing a turkey. Under "How To's" on Butterball.com, the "How to Thaw" section explains two methods for thawing a frozen turkey and includes a video demonstration.
Butterball recommends either thawing a frozen turkey in the refrigerator, breast side up, or submerging the turkey in its unopened packaging, breast side down, in cold water. The refrigerator method takes longer, but the cold water method requires changing the water every 30 minutes. A calculator on the website figures out how long each method takes based on the weight of the turkey. The website also includes instructions for choosing, brining, stuffing, roasting and deep frying a turkey.
