To make Taste of Home’s blonde brownies, grease an 11-by-7-inch baking pan. Cream 1/4 cup butter-flavored shortening and 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar in a bowl until fluffy and light. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, and beat well after the addition of each egg. Beat in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. In another bowl, combine 1 cup all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture, mixing well. Stir in 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped walnuts. Spread the mixture into the prepared pan, and bake the brownies at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
