Food Network has a simple and easy-to-follow recipe for cinnamon rolls. This recipe also gives the option for adding raisins, walnuts and pecans for extra flavor.
To make Food Network's recipe, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a bowl, dissolve 1/4-ounce package of yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. In another bowl, mix 1/2 cup scalded milk, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup melted butter, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 egg. Add 2 cups flour, and mix. Add the yeast mixture, and mix in more flour until the dough is easy to handle. Knead the dough on a floured surface for five to 10 minutes, and cover in a greased bowl for one to 1 1/2 hours.
When the dough has doubled, roll it out into a 15x9-inch rectangle. Spread 1/2 cup melted butter on the dough. Mix 3/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon. Sprinkle over the dough. If desired, sprinkle 3/4 cup raisins, walnuts or pecans. Roll up the dough, and pinch together to seal. Cut into 12 to 15 slices.
Grease a baking pan with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Place cinnamon rolls close together, and let rise for 45 minutes. Bake for 30 minutes.
Mix 4 tablespoons butter, 2 cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add 1 teaspoon hot water at a time until the glaze reaches desired consistency. Spread over the rolls.
