The basic Crisco pie crust recipe is relatively easy to make and it uses simple and readily available ingredients such as flour, salt and vegetable shortening. The dry ingredients should be mixed together and then cut with the shortening and water to form the dough. The dough is then shaped, flattened and rolled to create the pie crust.
Classic Crisco Pie Crust
Single pie crust
- 1 1/3 cups Pillsbury Best All Purpose Flour
- 1/2 stick well-chilled Crisco Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Shortening
- OR 1/2 Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 6 tablespoons ice cold water
Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut the Crisco shortening into the blend using a fork or a pastry blender. Gradually add small amounts of water until the dough holds together.
Step 2: Shape the dough into a ball. Flatten the ball into a half-inch thick round disks.
Step 3: Drizzle flour on the surface where the dough will be rolled. Roll the dough from the center going outward to form a circle that is at least two inches bigger than the pie plate.
Step 4: Place the rolled dough onto a pie plate and trim the edges leaving about 3/4 of an inch hanging over the lip of the plate. Fold the edges under and then flute the folded edges if desired.
