Make baked sweet potatoes by preheating an oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, piercing the potatoes several times and baking them on a foil-lined baking sheet. The potatoes bake for about 45 minutes or until tender.
The preparation technique used for baking sweet potatoes is the same as the technique used for white potatoes.
- Preheat oven
- Prepare potatoes
- Dress and serve
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wash and pat dry the desired number of sweet potatoes. Using a fork, pierce the potatoes several times. Place them on a foil-lined shallow baking pan. Place the pan in the preheated oven.
Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes or until fork tender.
When the potatoes are cooked, move to a serving plate and cut a slit in the top of each potato. Add salt and pepper to taste and a pat of unsalted butter, if desired.
For added variety, try adding different toppings to baked sweet potatoes. Greek yogurt, sour cream, cheese, canned black beans seasoned with taco seasoning, chopped scallions or bacon make tasty toppings.
Sweet potato fries are made in the same way, except the potatoes are cut into fries, coated in oil and baked in a 450 degree oven for 20 minutes or until golden and tender.
