Make a southwest Georgia pound cake by first mixing together 3 cups of sugar and 1 cup of softened unsalted butter. Beat in 6 large eggs, one at a time. In a separate bowl, sift together 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Starting with the flour mixture, add it and 1 cup of heavy cream in small amounts to the sugar and egg mixture, mixing continuously. Stir in 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract, then pour the batter into a greased and floured Bundt pan. Bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 75 minutes, then invert onto a plate to cool.
To make Paula Deen's perfect pound cake, beat in 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese along with the sugar and butter. Add 1/2 cup more of flour and an extra 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. Dust the cooled cake with confectioners' sugar and serve with fresh berries.Learn more about Desserts
