Bake an easy German chocolate cake by preparing a German chocolate cake box mix and mixing together a cream cheese frosting. For this, you need flaked coconut, pecans, cream cheese, butter, an egg and powdered sugar.
Prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to the instructions on the package. Spread a layer of 1 1/3 cups of coconut flakes and 1 cup of chopped pecans onto the bottom of the baking pan, then pour the batter on top. In another bowl, beat together 1 8-ounce package of softened cream cheese and 1/2 cup of softened butter. Once the mixture turns fluffy, add in 1 egg and 4 cups of powdered sugar until the frosting is creamy. Dollop the frosting even over the batter, and spread it out. Bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 55 to 60 minutes.
Another recipe requires you to frost the cake with a chocolate frosting after the cake bakes. You can also turn the coconut pecan layer at the bottom of the pan into a filling by combining 1 1/2 cups of evaporated milk, 5 egg yolks, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of butter in a sauce pan. Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and heat at medium for up to 12 minutes until the sauce thickens. Add 2 1/2 cups of flaked coconut and 2 cups of toasted pecans.
