The best apples for pies are those that keep their shape during a long baking time, include Granny Smith, Fuji, Jonagold, Newtown Pippin and Rhode Island Greening apples. Other apples that are good for pies are the Rome Beauty, Winesap, Empire, Golden Delicious and Cortland.
