What Is the Alcohol Content of Malibu Rum?

Original Malibu rum contains 21 percent alcohol and is consequently 42 proof. The coconut-infused rum has been made on the island of Barbados since 1893. Malibu rum is owned and operated by Pernod Ricard, who owns numerous other popular alcoholic beverage brands, including Absolut, Chivas and Beefeater London.

As of 2014, approximately 13 flavors of Malibu rum with varying alcoholic content levels are available. For example, Malibu Red (a mixture of original Malibu rum and tequila) contains 35 percent alcohol and is 70 proof. Other popular Malibu rum mixes, including Malibu Swirl and Malibu Tropical Banana, contain the same alcohol content as the original Malibu rum due to the infusion of additional non-alcoholic flavoring ingredients.
