The first stage of baby development takes place between 1 to 3 months. During this period, the baby will be able to smile to herself. However, within 3 months the baby will start smiling at other people around. The baby also learns how to raise her head and chest while lying on her tummy. Other development milestones at this stage include opening and closing the palm of the hands, tracking objects with the eyes and gripping objects with the hands.
The second stage of baby development begins at the 4th month. During this stage, the baby is able to roll over from one side to another. The baby will start laughing and can make sounds that seem like language. During this stage, the baby is able to hold the head up and reach out to grab objects.
The third stage of infant development takes place between the 7th and 9th months. During this stage, the baby gradually learns how to crawl. Other milestones at this stage include being able to sit up without help, pull up to a standing position, respond to familiar sounds and play certain types of games.
