Some home recipes for baby food include sweet potato, apple and pea purees. Store these foods in the refrigerator, or freeze them in ice cube trays for easy portioning.
To make sweet potato baby food, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a fork to poke holes into the skin of 2 large sweet potatoes, about 13 ounces each. Bake them in the oven until they are soft, approximately 55 minutes to one hour. Allow the potatoes to cool for about 45 minutes or until you can comfortably handle them.
Peel the potatoes, and blend them in a food processor until they are smooth. Slowly add water, formula or breast milk until reaching the desired consistency, or around 2 tablespoons.
To make baby food from apples, choose sweeter varieties, such as Gala, Golden Delicious or Rome. Wash, peel, core and quarter 4 apples. Steam the apple pieces in a covered steam cooker for approximately 12 minutes, or until they are soft. Blend the apples in a food processor until they reach a smooth consistency. Allow the puree to cool before serving it.
To make baby food from peas, cook 1 package of frozen peas in a steamer for about six to seven minutes, or until soft. Transfer the peas to a food processor, and add 1/2 cup of water. Blend the peas until they reach the desired consistency. Allow the puree to cool before serving it.
