VPK is an early education program available to any child who lives in the state of Florida, including children with disabilities. The program is based on the notion that the brain development most essential for learning occurs prior to 5 years of age. VPK centers provide year-long educational enrichment for children who have reached the age of 4.
There are no registration or attendance costs for children enrolled in the VPK program. Families must provide proof of Florida residency and proof of age for the child at the time of online registration. The VPK program only accepts utility bills, insurance policies, pay stubs and government-issued documents as acceptable proofs of Florida residency. Acceptable documents verifying a child's age include an official birth certificate and an insurance policy, immunization record or previous school transcript that states the child's birth date.
Once registered, families have the option to select between private and public VPK providers. As of August 2015, all providers are located in Miami-Dade or Monroe County.Learn more about Parenting
