It is important to keep a farewell speech short and concise. When writing the speech, it is important to organize the flow of information and have a clear beginning, middle and end. The speech should also be respectful and appropriate for the intended audience.

  1. Write the content

A farewell speech may focus on many different aspects, such as humorous memories, your history with the company, reasons for leaving or the admiration for your co-workers. The speech may include a variety of topics, but it important to have a running theme throughout.

  2. Organize the information in a clear and logical order

A speech should have a clear beginning, middle and end. Organize the content so that there is a logical flow between ideas. An example of this may be to first thank your audience for attending, then informing them of when and why you are leaving, followed by the people you have met and the lessons you have learned. This may lead into a story and end the speech with a final thanks.

  3. Time the speech

After the content is organized, it is important to time the speech and edit accordingly if it is too long. Although there is not formal length that a speech should be, it is important to take the intended audience into consideration.
