How Do You Write an Acceptance Speech?

To write an effective and memorable acceptance speech, several factors should be considered. The acceptance speech must contain a mention of gratitude to the organization giving the award or honorarium. The speech must acknowledge those who helped in making the accomplishment for which the award is given possible. Finally, an acceptance speech should be brief and to the point. Writing such a speech can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

  1. Thank the granting organization

Somewhere near the beginning of the speech, thank the organization granting the award or honorarium. Without the recognition of such an organization, whatever accomplishment is being feted might not have been duly recognized.

  2. Include others in the achievement

Given that most great deeds or achievements are impossible without the support of other crucial individuals, make sure these individuals are recognized and, if possible, named in the speech. These individuals may have been directly connected to the accomplishment, or they may have offered motivation, inspiration or some other kind of indirect support.

  3. Keep it brief and to the point

Check with the granting organization about how long the speech should ideally be, and write a speech that is just under that limit. The point is to keep the entire ceremony centered on the achievement. If there are other points you want to make, they should be saved for another speech.
