Appropriate clothing for a college interview is clean, neat, modest and not distracting. The clothing needs to match the weather, the program applied to and the formality of the college. Suits are not necessarily required, but fashionable, business-casual attire can make a positive impression.
A dress, or a skirt or dress pants with a nice blouse or sweater is proper for a woman. Neutral and pastel colors are less distracting that bright colors. Stockings, simple shoes and a small leather purse complete the outfit.
A collared shirt and dress pants are suitable for male applicants. In hot weather, neat, hemmed shorts are acceptable, especially if going on a campus tour on the same day as the interview. A brown or black leather belt and shoes dress up the outfit.
