What Is the Best Way to Outline a Case Study?

Case studies contain the basic sections: introduction, main body, conclusion, recommendations and appendix or reference section. Case study outlines vary depending on the subject at hand and its complexity. Outlines should essentially tell the story of the subject at hand, starting with a statement of the issue then working towards a conclusion and additional recommendations for action.

Before starting the case study outline process, a little bit of research and gathering of background information is quite helpful. This step involves identifying the main points or issues of contention, analyzing and evaluating the situation and determining if there is additional information that must be gathered to tell the story. The case study outline should begin with a background in the introduction section, which is elaborated on in the main body, along with a sound analysis and proposal of a best solution. Then, the conclusion section of the outline should briefly retell the story of the case and again emphasize an ideal solution. The recommendations section, which follows, should present a plan of action and explain its value. Finally, references and appendixes come last but are critical for providing proper credit to authors and directing readers to resources.
